Feasts and Festivals in Paris, Music at the Summer’s heart

Published on 10 June 2014 in Entertainment

Feasts and festivals in Paris offer a chance to make the most of the balmy weather. When summer spreads her golden wings and the nights grow warm and full of promise, many people turn their thoughts to the enticing prospect of celebrating the season at music festivals. Certainly this is true of Paris, where we have some of the best in the world, easily accessible from the BW Hotel Les Théâtres.

Live Music Events

Since 1982 the Fête de la Musique has blossomed into an international cultural event, celebrated in around a hundred places worldwide. Yet here in Paris is where it all began, thanks to a visionary culture minister who felt that there were not enough live music performances in the city. Since then, every June 21st , the longest day has been graced with musicians performing free of charge in various locations across the city, all day and all night. Urban music is this year’s theme, but musical tastes of every kind are catered for.

Another fine music festival and an exceptionally worthy cause is Solidays. Proceeds from this event go towards organisations fighting the scourge of AIDS, and to help raise awareness of this terrible disease. Since 1999, each year has offered a deliberately eclectic selection of performers and music genres. Held at the Longchamp racecourse, it’s family friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming and inclusive. Among this year’s featured performers are the Scottish indie-rock band, Franz Ferdinand, plus musicians from all across the world.
